Senior Analytical Scientist 

This role is based at Sandwich, Kent, UK within Drug Development Solutions (DDS). 

The Job (Senior Analytical Scientist with a solid expertise in HPLC / UPLC)

You will work as an integral part of the analytical group within the Drug Development Solutions AMS team in Sandwich, Kent, in a cGMP environment.

Analytical and Materials Science (AMS) team in Sandwich, Kent, supports the development and manufacture of new and existing medicines working for a wide range of customers, ranging from universities to large pharmaceutical companies.

Key responsibilities:

  • Performing analysis of APIs, raw materials, drug substances and/or drug products using HPLC, UPLC and other analytical methods in compliance with cGMP principles
  • Processing, interpretation and reporting of data using a high degree of scientific judgement
  • Method development and validation
  • Writing and reviewing protocols and SOPs
  • Troubleshooting issues relating to instrumentation and analysis as and when required
  • Technical review of data and reports generated by others, as well as project management and liaising with customers on projects and expectations
  • Raising quality incidents and events as and when necessary, and investigating quality events to find out root cause
  • Working to tight deadlines when necessary
  • Solving scientific problems
  • Training and mentoring junior staff 

Desirable requirements:

  • Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and an understanding of the drug development process
  • Knowledge and experience of mass spectrometry

Education, experience and technical skills:

  • BSc (Hons) or MSc in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in industry, with practical experience of pharmaceutical analysis using HPLC and/or UPLC methods
  • Proficiency in chromatographic software such as Empower, OpenLAB, Masslynx
  • Experience working to, and a strong understanding of, GMP principles
  • Ability to operate in a flexible manner, switching priorities at short notice and handling a diverse workload
  • Impeccable attention to detail, and excellent organisation, time management and documentation skills
  • Strong IT skills and use of electronic media, including MS Office
