Senior Sample Management Technician

This role is based at Fordham, Cambridgeshire, UK within Drug Development Solutions (DDS). 

With one of the world’s largest bioanalytical centres, recognised for leadership in science and technology, DDS has comprehensive capabilities for pharmacokinetic, immunogenicity and biomarker measurement that span LC-MS/MS, immunoassay and flow cytometry.  We routinely solve difficult method development challenges and have the capacity to support the largest, most complex protocols. Our Bioanalysis Department works together with pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical companies in support of pre-clinical and clinical trials for a wide variety of clients and therapeutic areas. We use innovative analytical methodology and the expertise of our analytical scientists to speed up the discovery of new medicines. The Department operates a well-equipped laboratory compliant with GLP and GCP, and offers the opportunity to work with state of the art analytical instrumentation.

The Job (DDS Senior Sample Management Technician)

We are looking for an experienced technician with good understanding of Sample Management and regulatory processes.  The focus of this role is to deliver a high standard Sample Management service to our Drug Development Solutions department.  A key aspect of the role is the ability to pay close attention to detail whilst handling biological samples. This work will be performed within a regulatory (GLP/GCP) framework to deliver high quality results to our customers.

Key responsibilities include;

  • Receiving samples, performing integrity checks and logging samples into our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Sample storage, tracking in LIMS and final disposal of samples
  • Ensuring sample integrity is maintained throughout the lifetime of the sample
  • Providing updates to study teams on study samples as required, acting as a first point of contact within the Sample Management team for assigned studies
  • Documenting samples discrepancies and communicating both internally and externally to work towards resolving these
  • Operating in accordance with SOPs producing good quality documentation in compliance with GLP
  • Working closely as part of a team, supporting one another to achieve our customers goals
  • Taking an active role in planning work, managing your time within a fast-paced environment
  • Being actively involved in training and/or line managing of junior staff
  • Contributing to audits including responses to audit findings

  • Have good computer skills, with experience of using Microsoft Office software
  • Have previous experience of using LIMS
  • Make suggestions for how processes can be improved

Education, experience and technical skills:

  • At least two years of previous Sample Management experience
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English
  • Further education in science
  • Experience in a GXP accredited laboratory is advantageous
