AMS Sandwich Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Analytical and Materials Science (AMS) Sandwich Team recently celebrated their 10^th Anniversary in an event marking Discovery Park’s 10^th Anniversary.

AMS Sandwich was founded in 2012 at Discovery Park – Kent’s largest science and innovation park situated just outside of the historic town of Sandwich. The team, initially comprising a few members, was formed with the aim of plugging a gap identified in the ‘Materials Science’ area of pharmaceutical development.

After having received the keys in August 2012, Glen Guermeur and the other founding members started out from scratch in an empty lab, armed only with a handful of second-hand instruments and sheer determination.

​​​​​​​One by one, they began to win contracts of work from other pharmaceutical companies on the site, and slowly started to grow their portfolio of work. This allowed them to invest in more instruments and capabilities as well as more staff along the way.

During the infancy years of AMS Sandwich, a few key areas of services were defined in which the team could better support the pharmaceutical industry, and most of this initially focused on materials science. Over the subsequent years, the team grew both in terms of staff and capabilities, and expanded its service offering to more areas including analytical development and foreign matter analysis.
